A-Random-ment Issues
Our Lady of Bovine Mystery, AmyH, has tagged me. And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large ch...
Skip a bit, Aubrey.
OK. Here are the rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post the rules.
3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
4. Don't forget to leave them a comment on their blog and tell them they've been tagged, and to come back and read your blog for the whole story:
1. At work, in the late 1980's, I was the subject of some gossip. When I found out about it, frankly, I was delighted. I didn't mind - terribly - who knew; I was kind of hoping it would get me the sympathy vote, actually.
2. I can eat any salad lettuce-side first, finishing with the croutons and all the yummy bits. It's a talent that requires a steady fork and a focused mind, and it has taken many years to develop. Now, at the snowy summit of my talent, I can look down on the diners laboring at their Caesars and Chop-Chops and Cobbs and say Carpe Dinner, my friends, continue fighting the good bite.
3. Don't you ever, EVER, serve me a martini with a lemon twist.
4. Modern music for the most part bores me. To be honest, I'm more interested in what the band members are wearing. Got your own MySpace page? Got your video on iPhone? That's nice. Now go away.
5. I had the chicken pox when I was 29. On the day that my face erupted with all its pent-up poxy force, I unwisely looked in the mirror. And I let out a yelp of dismay that could be heard throughout the neighborhood. For the next two weeks I laid in bed with a cold, (oh, did I mention that it was high summer?) wet rag on my throbbing face, listening to Billie Holiday.
6. I hate tomatoes. Their taste, their smell, their texture, their dripping intestines - they all add up to vegetable/fruit hell. Tomatoes destroy salads, sauces, sandwiches, omlettes - wrecking havoc across the edible horizon.
7. Boyfriend and I visit Monterey every year, as close to Halloween as we can. The reason for this is that many years ago, while we were walking along the wharf one Halloween day, we saw someone dressed as Dracula - unless it was the dark Count himself - visiting the wharf as well, inspecting the morning's catch. We now go every year, hoping to see him again.
7a. Boyfriend and I have been together for over ten years.
8. When I was tiny, my pediatrician told my mother that for her baby's health, I should have one hour of sunshine and one piece of bacon each day.
Long ago, I was tagged with a meme demanding that I reveal 8 interesting things about myself. Please note that this time the things are random, not interesting.
But perhaps you've already figured this out yourself.
Since I believe that this is the flank end of this meme, I beg that all those who have not yet joined in the revels do so with all speed.

I got chicken pox 3 days before summer break started, in 8th grade. I noticed them in the morning. My mother didn't believe me and sent me to school. A few more appeared during the day so I saw the school nurse. She didn't believe me but sent me home because there was a big all-student assembly that afternoon and "better safe than sorry". My mother, quite pissed off, took me to the doctor and even he didn't believe I had them - because my scalp had not broken out (he insisted that's the first spot; my first spot was the palms of my hands). Next day, there was no doubt of a pox upon me.
I had 2 out of body experiences while I had the pox. Both times, I saw everything that happened from a 3rd party, totally different location in the house, perspective. It remains one of the cooler things I've ever experienced.
The trick to tomato eating is to peel them and take the pulp and seeds out. I'm not a fan of the cold tomato.
This is the best response to a meme I have ever read. I cracked up at your description of tomatoes and the bacon advice... Weird!
I will now meme away as a displacement activity.
Tomatoes are also wilfully difficult to peel. All that blanching in hot water? Please.
I LOL'ed at that last one!! I love your pediatrician!!
not a big fan of sliced tomatoes, I like them pulverized for italian food or chopped up small for salsa or pico de gallo. any bigger, any seeds and it's yuck city. sliced tomatoes....*shudder*
Fantastic list! Thanks also for my new moniker when it's time for me to ascend to sainthood. Or something like that. :-)
I don't even remember having chicken pox, I think I was a bitty baby. I have the scars and I'm told I had it, but it was before my memory circuits kicked in. I'm glad I got it out of the way early.
I still have a scar on my face from chicken pox from when I was little.
#3 - emily, I usually have vodka martinis, but that's only because the one time I had it with gin, I was quite, quite nauseous. It could have just been some bad Tanqueray.
#5 - I never knew about the shingles connection. Splendid. I caught the pox from our receptionist, who caught it from one of her children. She came back to work too soon and promptly got two or three of us sick. Leenda, I remember wishing I was out of my body, but the event never happened.
#6 - Tomatoes do have their uses. They're good for you. If cut thin, they can add a pleasing texture to a sandwich. And I like them sun-dried. But anything else, I can't do. Suga', B. Marys have so many other yummy things in them, that I can handle the tomato-y part. LM, I am very sensitive to sauces on pizza - which is why I prefer the cheesier, greasier, cheaper kind.
#8 - We can't figure out why he recommended such things. S. Learner, I've always disliked the sun, and I'd LOVE to have bacon daily, but sadly, can't do that. purplesque, yes she most certainly did follow that advice!
I love your life, Aubs! :D
Oh my, I love the bacon advice. The Sweet Potato Queens would like to meet that doctor, I'm sure. I was watching Iron Chef recently, and Cat Cora made "pig candy". Hmmm, I'm not much of a meat eater, but I'm intrigued by that. Number 4 is classic. I do post some modern music to my blog, but most is more obscure. I love so many types of music. Just don't bring your booming boom box to the beach. That pisses me off.
I haven't heard from you in awhile. Miss you.
